WIth the New Year often brings new things to focus on. This year I want to make sure to bring a deeper focus on RECOVERY. When we think about health and fitness the body often is the first thing to come to mind. True health and fitness is the body, the mind and the spirit all being connected. We have all heard the quote Work Hard, Play Hard. I love that one and I try to incorporate into my life more often than not. Sometimes the play doesn’t happen as often as I’d like and that is why I make sure to schedule it! Work and play both feed the body and mind.
There has been so much amazing hard work and great energy here at FitHouse in the New Year already. WIth that said, the harder we work the harder we need to recover. Recovery restores us Body, Mind and Spirit. I am typing this right now during Brits Restorative Yoga class. It is a full house and the presence in the room is for lack of better words DEEP. The energy is centered, it is calm, it is peaceful and yet it is powerful. Sometimes we have to put ourselves in a setting that allows our mind to relax and let go just as much as our bodies.I can guarantee that ALL of us need this in our lives.
I urge you this week to think about how you can add more recovery into your week and your life for both your body and your mind. Maybe it is foam rolling for a few minutes each day. Maybe it is meditating or getting a massage or maybe it is just closing your eyes and breathing deep. Like everything sometimes it takes practice and sometimes we don’t always feel good at it in the beginning. I can guarantee you if you stick with it you won’t regret it! Look forward for more ways to help you recover right here at FitHouse. We’ve got one body, one mind, one life…we got to make it great!!!!

Often Resolutions don’t stick.
So let’s start with a single word! The challenge is simple: lose the long list of changes you want to make this year and instead pick ONE WORD. Energized, Strong, Committed
This process provides clarity by taking all your big plans for life change and narrowing them down into a single focus. Just one word that centers on YOU and creates a vision for your future. So, we challenge you to join us and pick one word for the next twelve months!!
To get to that word here are a few questions to ask yourself
-What do you want more of?
-What do you want less of?
-What do you want to be different at the end of the year?
-What do you need to do that?
Take some time to think about your ONE WORD!!! Make it a good one!

2018 What’s on Your Health and Fitness Bucket List?!?!
The word bucket list…typically symbolizing things we want to do before we die… can be an intense reminder that time is not standing still. But, the reminder that our time is limited is actually one of the best gifts we can be given. It is one that can guide us to achieve what is most important to us while we can!
Although you know how important your health and fitness are and what a difference exercise and nutrition can make in so many areas of your life…it can be easy to get sidetracked. When you set goals, specific ones like those on a bucket list you are carving out what you want for your future and giving yourself the direction that you want to go! It will help you determine your end goal and the steps that need to be taken to get there, keeping your eye on the prize.
Without clear goals it’s easy to get diverted, heading in multiple directions and years later ending up in a place you really never intended. Even with goals, if you cannot remain focused you will lose momentum, which will lead to a loss of motivation and ultimately failure at achieving the result you desire. But with your bucket list you will be able to continuously refer to it in order to reenergize your focus.
We want to help you give your health and fitness a focus in 2018 so that you can stay motivated and continue moving forward on your journey!!
We have created a 2018 Health and fitness bucket list and attached it below. Try to come up with 3-5 things that are important to you and that you feel passionate about accomplishing this year. Hopefully this list will spark some ideas, you may have your own kick butt items to add too…that’s great! We would love to know what yours are so that we can help you stay on track! We are also in the process of drafting up our FitHouse line up of events and races for the year and will be posting soon!! It is always easier to stay motivated with a family of Fitness friends!!!
I have to take a little more time to complete my list but I’ll share what has already made it so far so you can help hold me accountable!!!

The Best Presents don’t come under the tree!
I just got finished cuddling on the couch with the kids watching one of my favorite Christmas movies “The Grinch.” Normally Sunday nights don’t go like that especially at this time of year! It’s usually a mad rush to get myself ready for the week, get the kids ready for the week, get the newsletter out and try to get enough zzz’s to start the week fresh.
This Holiday I was given one of the best gifts ever by my team…the gift of time! I was informed last week that they would be covering my 27 classes and training sessions this week. I can’t express how much I appreciate this!! It was a weird feeling because I love this time of year, playing Christmas music, infusing holiday fun into classes and spreading some holiday cheer. For that reason you won’t be able to keep me away completely and I still have plenty of FitHouse stuff to keep me busy outside of the studio but it will be amazing to have the extra time to focus on that as well stuff as well as be able to spend extra time with my loved ones, doing other things that I love and to go into the holiday with some extra zzz’s!!! This truly is better than anything that could come under a tree and I appreciate the entire FitHouse family for your flexibility as well!!! I am excited to join you all in some classes this week !!!!!!

Healthy for the Holidays!!!
The Most Wonderful Time of Year can also be the busiest and most Stressful!
It can be very tempting to ditch your workouts and throw away the healthy diet but it’s times like this that those things can be the most important for our bodies and minds! Here are some tips to keep your holiday healthy and keep your fitness strong this season!
1. Plan your Week ahead of time and make sure to include some workouts and healthy Meals
2. Hit the Sack a little earlier for an early rise.
3. When in a pinch opt for Short and Sweet
4. Amp It Up
5. Calm It Down
6. Eat Your Veggies
7. Reduce Stress by Keeping Things Simple so You can Enjoy Time with Friends and Family!!!

25 Days of Merry FitMas!!
I hope you had a great weekend! As the busy holiday season arrives a lot of us will be trying to achieve that thing called Life Balance,
the balance between many important areas in our lives. I’ve heard many different experts speak on this and the conclusion is that “Balance” in life doesn’t exist! We have 5 or 6 balls in life and we are constantly juggling them. The more balls that we have the harder it becomes to juggle. We can’t be great at everything all of the time even though we’d like to. Sometimes we need to put a ball down. All of our balls are fragile. If we drop the same ball too many times it will break! For most of us our important balls in life look like this
1.Family
2.Friends
3.Health and Fitness
4.Spirit
5.Work
6.Sleep
It’s hard to be great at more than juggling three balls at a time. You can’t juggle all of your balls great all of the time.
So as we enter the holiday season remember to choose different balls daily and be OK with putting a few down when you have to or need to just don’t put down the same balls too often!
All balls are important and once a ball is broken it can be hard to fix!
