Stay summer STRONG with FitHouse

June 26, 2017 by Christine Parker

woman walking near a pierSummer has arrived!!  I hope that your summer is off to a great start! We spent the last week at The Kalahari Resort in Ohio for a dance competition! It was a fun-filled week with lots of dance, waterslides and family fun with both our dance family and the Parker family, but it always feels great to get back home to the FitHouse family and a regular routine! There is no doubt that when you are traveling it’s a little more challenging to eat clean and workout. Life is all about balance. I still managed to get some MEPS this week with some outdoor runs and a couple of gym workouts. I make it a priority when I travel when I can, because it makes me feel good especially after indulging a bit more on the food side, plus I didn’t want to fall too far behind on the MEPS challenge!  For me it also makes it a lot easier to dive back in when I return.

I have a few shares from the week! The kids did great at competition, and it’s always cool to see the improvement through the year. There was quite a bit of competition at this nationals which was also good to see. The girls had to really earn their spots. One of my proud mama moments was my daughter Kaylie placing 9th overall with her solo out of about 120 solos. She worked hard for it, and there have been many times when she doesn’t get in the top 10. The hard part when you don’t get in the top 10 is that you don’t really know where you placed. One thing that this competition did was post the scores of the top 10 solos, groups, etc. which isn’t typically done. Seeing these results reminded me of Thomas Edison’s quote, “Many of life’s failures are people who never realized how close they were to success before they gave up.”  Out of 120 points in most cases there were about .3 points that separated 5th through 10th place…it was soooo close. It reminded me of all of the times in life that we feel sooo far away from the end point, the prize or the goal and often we don’t realize just how close we are….a good thing to remember the next time that we want to give up!

My second share is about that 1% better!  Ashlynn did her solo and did a great job!  She has come so far this year! I told her how proud I was of her, but I also usually talk about something that she can work on improving. One of the things that I told her is that she had to work on her stage face in her solo and be careful not to overdo it…sometimes less is more. I could tell she was a little disappointed by my comment. Well shortly after that I got an email that the first podcast that I have ever recorded was ready on iTunes!!! I LOVED doing the podcast and felt like I had a lot to share!! I couldn’t wait to listen to it. Well, as I listened I was HIGHLY annoyed by the amount of “ummms” and “ya knows” that I recited and could hardly listen to what I was saying. Ugh this somehow came at the perfect time!!! I was able to share exactly what I meant with Ashlynn. We all have things that we need to work on!! That doesn’t mean that we can’t be proud of where we are at the moment it just means that we can keep getting better…life would get kind of boring if we couldn’t! When I did the podcast I was nervous, I wasn’t sure what to expect kind of like when she goes on stage. I could either throw in the towel or work on my “ummms” and get better. No matter where we are in life we can always get 1% better as long as we focus on enjoying the journey!!

Check out the link to the podcast below!!! I think you will like it minus the “ummms” and”ya knows”!!!

Summer STRONG…Happy Father’s Day!

June 19, 2017 by Christine Parker

stay summer STRONG happy fathers dayHappy Father’s Day  to all of our FitHouse Fathers out there!  Being a father is an important role and one that has a lifetime impact!!! We are at Kalahari for the week for our dance nationals…..participating in that alone is a huge fatherly feat. Before we left this morning the kids showered their dad with a few gifts and their homemade cards. My 14 year old gave her father a letter that was a good page long. Although I had no idea what it said I could tell by the look on my husbands face and the possible tear in his eye that it was something very special. I’m pretty sure that when he ventured into this thing called fatherhood 14 years ago he had no idea he would be dealt a deck with four queens. Although he hears daily, “Four girls, I feel sorry for you,” and I know that being a father to four girls can pose challenges at times, he never looks anything less than proud. The role that he plays for our girls is quite tremendous!

The role of a father often goes undervalued, but it is so important.

Happy Father’s Day to all of you dads out there who make a difference every day!!!! Thank you!

Two years stronger!!!

June 12, 2017 by Christine Parker

FitHouse 2 Year Anniversary

This week was full of Firsts and my heart was full of gratitude!! This week we celebrated our official two year Anniversary of FitHouse. This week was also the release of the book that I had the opportunity to co author “10 Stories of Strong Living, True Fitness Begins in the Heart.” I also had an opportunity to be a guest on my first podcast with “Health Nuts” which will I loved and will air on iTunes in the near future! It is a big milestone week for me as a mom as well as 3 of my children will move up to new schools next year.

One of the practices that I learned from Todd Durkin and am encouraged to do by my coach every week is to write my Wins and Losses for the week. This week there were a lot of wins and it really felt great but I can assure you that there have been many weeks where the losses seem to flow a lot easier than the wins.

It has been an emotional week. I have learned so much about myself and about my journey through life in these past two years. Making the jump to open FitHouse was one of the biggest decisions in my life. I made decisions to move across the country, take a job traveling the seas, say I do, move back across the country. But with FitHouse I felt like so much more was on the line at this time of my life. I can’t say that I was necessarily scared because I wasn’t afraid of failing in the business, I knew that if I failed I could handle it. But I was definitely afraid.  I was afraid of failing at LIFE!   As a mom blessed with four amazing daughters, a wife with a wonderful husband, a daughter with a wonderful mother and father and a friend with a great network of friends who I love, I have a lot!!!  This is what I WAS afraid of failing, my children, my husband, my family, my friends and myself. I was afraid of not being able to make the time time or energy to be the mom or wife that I desire to be, the daughter that enjoys time with her mother. I was afraid of not  being able to have the ability to juggle all of these balls in the air and still take care of me and practice what I preach, love like I wanted to love and be who I wanted to be!

In the end this decision wasn’t about me, it was about something much bigger. It was about leading the way for other moms who had a passion but weren’t sure if they could do it, it was about creating a community for those who needed someone to believe in them, it was about bringing energy to this world and having fun and it was about leading the way for my children and showing them that with hard work, a deep passion and the ability to accept what and who you are you can achieve what you put your mind to. I have been told you can only take others on a journey as far as you have been. Right or wrong I knew that this was a part of the journey that I needed to take to grow as a fitness professional but even more so as a person. I believe that we have all been given gifts that connect us to the world. If we can share those gifts that is one of the best things in life!

In the past two years through this journey I have had to learn to let go of what is truly not important, I have learned the importance of who you surround yourself with, the team is everything!! Thank you to my FitHouse Team and my team of family and friends, for being so awesome!!! I have learned that making mistakes is par for the course and with the right attitude they will make you better! I used to think that I could have everything in life, but what I have learned is that I can have almost anything but I definitely can’t have everything so choosing wisely and with your heart is the key!

Someone recently asked me if the balance between the business and family and life was getting easier. I thought for a second and said no but I am getting better! That holds true for so many things in life, motherhood, a new job, or embarking on a new journey in life.

Often things don’t get easier but if they are important to us then we must work to find ways to make ourselves better so that we can become the person to handle them!! 1% Better EVERYDAY!!!!

Have a GREAT week!!!!

10 Stories of Strong Living out June 6th!!!!

May 22, 2017 by Christine Parker

I am super excited to share with you the final version of the book cover “10 Stories of STRONG LIVING”  a project that I am honored to be a part of!  There were so many great things about this experience but I just want to highlight a few.

We all have a story that is unique to us, makes us who we are and connects us to the world and people around us. Sharing our stories can create laughter , give comfort, fill gaps of loneliness, give hope and help to lead others through unknown territory! Our stories can be gifts to others.

I have had the opportunity to share an advance copy of he book with a few people. Some of them have been sharing with me the parts that resonated with them the most. The cool part is that it has been different for everyone! Different thoughts and ideas speak to us in different ways at different times in our life. As we grow we change, our ideas change, our beliefs often change and so can our dreams.

We all have our own definition of success. Sometimes it takes a lot of digging, living and risking to really understand and find our own definition of success. It is easy to define ourselves by the thoughts and intentions of everyone around us. Just as our dreams can change over time so can our definition of success. There is no right or wrong only what is right or wrong for us at our present moment.

Lastly, when you continually aim to keep stepping forward and you surround yourself with people who push you to be your best  you will continue to climb and be presented with opportunities.!!!

As you see above Todd Durkin wrote the foreword to this book. I was super excited when I found out that he was going to have a part in it and even more humbled to read it a few weeks ago. Flash back to about 14 years ago, I first encountered Todd Durkin at a fitness convention. I had just had my first child and was unsure exactly where my path was leading me. I felt like my dance career was in its final chapters and had just begun to explore the fitness industry. When I met Todd I was overtaken by his passion, his energy and his enthusiasm not just for fitness but for life! I remember thinking I need to get to know this person. In the past 14 years I’m not sure that I have learned more from any one person about the fitness industry, myself and life! It is a bit surreal to be at this place 14 years later and to be a part of a book in which Todd Durkin wrote the foreward.

Sometimes we don’t have a direct plan, sometimes we get derailed from what we think is the right plan, but I believe in the power of positive energy, hard work and sometimes jumping even when you are not sure exactly where you will land. When we keep moving we will end up exactly where we are meant to be!

I am excited for all of you to be able to read, experience and share the stories of the 9 other amazing individuals that are also a part of this book! The book will be released June 6th on Amazon. Stay tuned for more details on a book signing party at FitHouse as well!!!

We would love to help you on your path to “STRONG LIVING” …..come visit us at FitHouse this week!  Just getting started or nervous about taking that first step?!?! Come join me at CIRCUIT BASICS tomorrow at 10:15AM.

“Strong living does not transpire in a straight line!”

Success happens when we leave our comfort zone!!!

May 15, 2017 by Christine Parker

collage of pictures of Fithouse members at the "Mud on the Mountain" eventHappy Mother’s Day to all of our FABULOUS moms out there! I got to spend my Mother’s Day weekend surrounded by some of the fabulous FitHouse Family!!! There were so many great things about this weekend but one of the best parts was seeing how accomplished so many people felt and how much fun everyone had!!!  It was Mud on the Mountain Weekend at Seven Springs and in the words of one of our members, “We killed It!”  FitHouse Down and Dirty had about 30 members. Days before the race the weather forecast was looking a bit grim. I’m not going to lie, going to the dentist for a root canal sounded a bit better doing a mud run on a rainy 40 degree morning and submerging myself in multiple bodies of 40 degree water, diving through mud pits and holding onto obstacles with a death grip and numb hands while hanging 12 feet in the air.

I am pretty sure that all other 29 members of the team  had similar feelings as well. We had both veteran mud runners and first timers on the team. It’s debatable as to which situation is the better of the two. As a first timer you go into the race nervous having no idea what to expect and wondering if you will make it out alive. However it is a bucket list item so if you survive it …wow what an awesome accomplishment! For the veterans, you are pretty sure you will make it out alive as you have in the past, but you are also well aware of the significant discomfort that you will be going through in the process! You already checked this off your bucket list, possibly multiple times, so part of you is questioning your sanity in doing this again in less than optimal conditions! Contrary to popular belief most of us who  sign up for the mud runs do not  enjoy rolling in the mud, jumping into dirty ponds or running in the wet and cold. Hmmmm so why did we sign up for this again?!?!?

It’s all about the feeling of accomplishment, strength and camaraderie that overwhelm you at the end of the day!

I heard multiple times on Saturday “I did things that I never thought I would be able to do”

When you do a race like this you can train but there is no doubt that there are some elements that are hard to train for specifically. Running on wet and slippery rocks, jumping onto uneven terrain, holding on with wet, cold and muddy hands are all things that you can’t experience in the full until race day. There is no doubt that this adds another level of agility, balance, strength and athleticism and it feels awesome to do something that you never thought  you would be able to do!

Then there is the mental component.

I am pretty sure that on any other day of the year you could not pay me to dive into a smelly mud pit or swim across a 40 degree pond. But on this particular day I actually paid money to do this and got  a group of other crazy people agreed to do it with me! I think the part that I love the most about runs like this is that they challenge your mind to go pretty far out of your comfort zone at times

Finally there is nothing to describe the sense of camaraderie, community and fun  felt between a group of people who go through a challenge together.

I saw so many smiles, high fives and so much laughter (between the shivers) throughout the day. A race like this brings out your inner child and is all about the experience, working as a team and meeting new friends.

Mud runs aren’t right for everyone. They are definitely challenging both physically and mentally and put a significant amount of stress on the body.
I do however believe that there is an adventure that is right for EVERYONE and it is important to challenge ourselves with some kind of physical adventure periodically in life. Maybe it is running your first 5K, maybe it is taking your first fitness class or maybe it’s doing your first ropes course. There is no better feeling than to set a goal, make a plan to help you reach it and then crush it.  Most often our biggest obstacle lies within ourselves and as many proved this weekend we are often capable of so much more than we believe!

This weekend I was inspired to be surrounded by 29 other people ranging in age from 27 to 65 and all with their own stories, their own obstacles and their own challenges. We were all there to test our limits, challenge ourselves both body and mind and to make lasting memories together!!!!

Don’t forget just how strong you really are….step out of that comfort zone and be amazing!!!!
