How do you want to feel?

How are you feeling right now?!?! Often we take how we feel for granted. There are some key things that can contribute to helping our bodies and minds feel their best.

  1. Clean Eating to reduce inflammation in our bodies and fogginess in our minds
  2. Exercise to help raise our feel good endorphins and give us energy
  3. Reducing Stress-take time to slow down and recharge even if it is just 5 or 10 minutes a day
  4. Hydrate- make sure that water is the first thing that you drink in the AM at least 30 minutes before anything else
  5. Surround yourself with positive people
  6. DO something that you makes you happy!
  7. Take time for gratitude

Are there one or two things on this list  that you could do better this week to try to help you feel like you want to feel?!?! What can you focus on this week that will help you to feel your BEST!?!?!?

MINUTE OF THE MONTH CHALLENGE

***HAND RELEASE PUSH UPS IN MARCH!

That’s right! We’re starting minute of the month challenges to keep YOU motivated, challenged, and fired up! This month our challenge is hand release push ups! A hand release push up is done by laying completely flat on the floor, picking the hands up, placing them back down, and raising into a plank position. Your goal is to try to get the entire body off of the ground at the same time- from the chest to the shins by engaging the core to get the lower body up with the upper body! START PRACTICING

Join the March Madness!!!!

I am just wrapping up a long weekend of dance with my three older girls. It was the first competition of the season, and it was a great start for the girls and the studio. It is amazing how many lessons you can learn through your children and one of my favorite parts is seeing how much they have grown from one year to the next. It is one of my favorite parts, because I know all of the hard work and heart that goes behind it.

This weekend I was reminded of the quote above. Why is it that we have a tendency to focus on our limitations instead of our greatness? If we focused on making the great things better what limits us would become less and less!

What great thing about yourself can you focus on this week and make it even greater instead of spending time trying to fix what limits you???

March Madness Starts Tomorrow!!!!!

This weekend I got another year wiser and was gifted another opportunity to celebrate life!!! I just want to say a BIG thank you for all of your birthday wishes, words and kindness! It was really a great day where I had a chance to start my day with a workout, spend time with my children, work a little and then ended the evening with my husband and friends at the Escape Room! We did not escape but had a lot of fun and laughs and are determined to go back and get our picture on the Escape Room board!!!

One of the best parts of the day was getting videos from friends and the FitHouse Community throughout the day! Lindsay collected a stream of videos and sent one every hour of the day for about 12 hours! It was such a great idea and it was also a great reminder of what truly matters in life. It was FREE and it was priceless.

In one of the videos that made me cry the person in the video talked about something that I had said to her six or seven years ago.  It was something simple but it’s value was HUGE and it came from my heart. She doubted herself and I believed in her. Sometimes we don’t realize the power that one simple action or word can have on another. I remember a few years back when I was doubting myself about something kind of big. I was talking to someone in the industry who knew me but not too well. She said something to me that at the moment was exactly what I needed to hear, She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and to this day I remember her words.

Some of the BEST most VALUABLE things in life are absolutely FREE. They are all around us and they also lie within us! When you have those days that you wonder if you are doing enough remember the power of your simple word or your simple action to someone who needs it!

The quote above is one that as I try to remember as I get wiser through the years. It is easy to celebrate on a day like our birthdays but everyday has something in it that we can celebrate and say thank you for!!

Eating On-the-Go!

For myself, the past month has involved a lot of travel, irregular schedules and eating on-the-go. It’s never ideal but often with a family and conflicting schedules it is necessary to eat on the go!  How do you keep it healthy, especially with kids!?!? A lot of times I come ready with some healthy snacks and goodies. When I traveled to the Bahamas and California I had a stash of healthy snacks in my suitcase. May sound crazy but no one was complaining when we saved a good bit of time and money having some healthy choices that everyone liked on hand.

What a beautiful weekend to get outside and get some vitamin D!! Last week I talked about energy!! Although I have been inbound for quite a bit this weekend at a dance convention I managed to pack my running gear and get a couple nice runs in through downtown Pittsburgh and it felt great!!! The city was buzzing with extra energy from the beautiful weather and it felt great to move and kept me revved up!!! It’s been an energy packed weekend with kids activities, projects, birthday celebrations, upcoming events etc. etc.!! Energy is always important but energy during these times is crucial!!! It’s funny how the things that protect and provide us with energy like exercise, good nutrition, sleep and positive mindset are often the things that we let go of when our lives get busy. This is one of the MOST important times to keep these things on the priority list!  The topic of nutrition and feeding kids healthy came up several times this weekend! The struggle is real!!! Feeding kids healthy meals can be a challenge at home and even more so when on the go.

Saturday I decided that I would pick something up in town for the girls at the end of my run. I thought I could save a little time in the AM and not have to worry about packing lunches. Their request was for sandwiches and salads from Brueggers. While it is sometimes painful to feed them bagels we compromise with the addition of salads, fruits and a good protein.  I arrived at Brueggers 30 minutes before the lunch break and I ended up standing in line for 25 minutes. I paid $8 a piece for salads that contained lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and croutons, my kids are picky! They did not have the dressing of choice so I had to pick an alternate. Needless to say I ended up bringing two salads back home with me at the end of the day. Grrr.. what a waste of time and money!

Sunday lunches were packed. It is funny how we rationalize that it is more convenient or less expensive to pick something up when we are out. Sometimes that is true but the reality today was that it was a lot more convenient AND HEALTHY to come armed with a good lunch and snacks from home! I have four children who all have different tastes (of course we wouldn’t want to make things too easy). It can be a part time job preparing lunches and dinners when we are on the go! I wanted to share my favorite easy choices when preparing for on the go!!!

Justin’s Almond Butter packs on an Apple or celery

Quest Bar

Kind Bar (variety with 5g of sugar or less)

Salad packed in an easy to throw away chinese container

Homemade trail mix

Veggies and hummus pack

Veggies and guacamole pack

Cheese stick or baby bell

Turkey roll ups (Applegate nitrate free turkey breast) with avocado and veggie slices inside

Almond butter and on Ezekial raisin bread

Homemade Protein balls

Cucumber tuna bites (slice  a cucumber about 1 inch. Scoop out center and fill with favorite healthy tuna salad)

Hard boiled egg

½ Sweet potato w/ black beans and salsa

These are some of my favorites!!! If you have some favorites to share please pass them along or post them on the Facebook page!!! Let’s help each other out with healthy eating on the go!! It’s not always easy but it is definitely worth the extra  effort!! You and your family’s health depends on it!!!!

Mastermind Weekend Recap

I hope you all had a Great Weekend!  I had the opportunity to take a quick trip to Coronado California for about 48 hrs with an incredible group of people in the Todd Durkin Mastermind Institute. We dove into a lot in just a short amount of time, great workouts, watching Athletes from the NFL and Baseball  Pros train,  learn about some of the newest technology and products in the fitness industry and network with some of the most talented and passionate people in the industry. There was one thing in common with everyone that was there they lead with their heart and are on missions to change lives.

We trained hard but the other thing that we did equally was had quality Zen time. The picture above is Todd leading a 15 minute meditation at the end of an outdoor workout. I cannot wait to bring back some of this great stuff  to FitHouse and share it with all of you. Being there was a reminder to me of just how incredible ALL of YOU are!!! Please don’t forget that.  With all that I digested in the short 48 hrs that I was there one person had an enormous impact on me…Dr. Heidi Hanna. She studies stress and the brain and was absolutely phenomenal with what she had to share. I want to share with you some of my top take aways from the weekend that came from Heidi’s Presentation.

  1. Most of Us suffer from a significantly imbalanced nervous system because we are on high alert a majority of the time. We need to make time to SLOW down.
  2. Stress is a Great thing when managed correctly.
  3. EXERCISE is the BEST way to strengthen the prefrontal cortex…a very important part of the brain….the decision maker.
  4. The top 4 Ways to Redesign the Nervous system are Eat right, Move, Sleep and Connect
  5. Stress is HIGHLY addictive.
  6. Feeling Isolated is worse on your health than smoking cigarettes.
  7. The more our environment continues to move at a fast forward speed the more important it is to take intentional time to Slow down, breathe and  recharge quality energy. Let’s focus this week on making the time to

EAT HEALTHY | MOVE | SLEEP | CONNECT
