I hope you are all having a great Labor Day weekend! Many of us are enjoying the last Hoorah before the kids return to school and the school year really kicks off. There has been a mixture of Labor and FUN for myself and FitHouse this Labor Day Weekend. Saturday kicked off with the End of Summer Olympics! A BIG thank you to all of you who participated! It was a super fun morning with through the roof energy, inspiration and competition! Click HERE to see some of the action!
After that the Parker family buzzed out of town for a quick little escape to the in laws camp in Slippery Rock. It was a fun, relaxing family day of hiking, swimming, golf cart riding and mountain pies. Mike and I snuck back home for the night and got a 20 mile bike ride in this morning before picking up the kids. I also had a chance to catch up on some of my emails and videos from a few of the different coaching groups I am involved in. I was listening to one of the leaders in kids fitness in both athletes and fundamental movement in the youth. He was talking a lot exercise physiology stuff but there were two main points that he kept making to us as leaders in the fitness industry.
- The importance of planning
- The importance of doing the things that are hard for you, maybe you are not comfortable with, maybe you don’t feel good at but are necessary to excel
These two things he believed were KEY components of success in building your programs.
It got me to thinking that these are two key components that contribute to success in so many areas of life! When we think about building healthier habits in our diets and exercise, reducing stress, reaching a goal, planning is critical, “if you fail to plan then plan to fail.”
And for the second, of course we want to stick to things that we are good at, are comfortable with, things that fuel our egos and make us feel good about ourselves. But often when we have a goal we trying to achieve, a vision we are after, there will be uncomfortable areas that we need to venture into. It is in doing the things that may not come easy to us, the things that we must learn to become better at or the things that we must dicipline ourselves to do that truly help us to succeed!
I thought there was no better time to be reminded of this than on Labor Day Weekend!
This Labor Day I share with you these three thoughts:
- We are blessed to be able to share our gifts in our Labor, as a parent, in our jobs and in life
- One of the greatest feelings is that of the accomplishment that comes with truly laboring over something that you care about
- The importance of taking the opportunity to work on something that we are not great at but that getting better at will help us succeed on a project, on a goal or in life!
Have a Happy Labor Day!
