David Bly Quote

David Bly QuoteIt’s that time of the week again!!! I hope that you made it a great weekend! I started the day with an awesome run and then got to prepping for a week of healthy living and the Five Day Summer Slimdown! I’m ready for some green smoothies and clean eating!   I also had a chance to catch up on some email threads and came across a great post written by one of my colleagues. Then the family went to mass and I heard a similar message as the post from my colleague. It was about making life deposits. Now I don’t know about you but when I hear a similar message two times in a short amount of time, I take it a bit personally and look at the things in my life a little deeper to see where it relates. SO many times we hope to get a lot more out of something than we put in. We put in a little bit of work and we expect a big return. It happens to all of us at some point with something in our lives. They say that it takes 10,000 hours to become a master, an expert or truly great at something!

I want to share this article because it’s a great reminder about the return on what we put into our lives.

Did you deposit today?

One of my daily morning rituals is to listen to my Daily Devotional with Rick Warren over at Saddleback Church.

Quick tip – it’s an amazing daily fuel but if you get easily offended you may want to skip it 🙂

One of the episodes, he made a point that really stuck out to me…

…and I’ll explain it as soon as I tell this story of an event I experienced.

I was at an ATM at Chase Bank last Friday and the guy in front of me was trying to withdraw some funds.

After 3 attempts he still couldn’t do it and I was getting a bit antsy as I was short on time. As I peaked over to see what was going on it kept telling him he has insufficient funds.

He kept trying over and over again and the result was the same.

And this is what I remembered after listening to one of Rick’s podcast and the big lesson….

You Can’t Withdraw What You Haven’t Deposited!

You cannot take out more than you put in.

This goes for every area of life and you will see it show up everywhere…

People want to get extraordinary results within weeks or a couple of months – what they are really trying to do is withdraw more than they deposited.

I have experienced this many times before when I would start something and work hard for a bit and expect there to be amazing results. Time and failures taught me that I will only be able to take out what I put in, and building extraordinary things take a lot of “putting in” towards that account (body, business, relationships, yourself…).

The work you do today will show in the future but you can only do it TODAY. You can’t do tomorrow’s work today.

Ask yourself where in your life are you wanting to withdraw more than you deposited?

Where can you deposit more so that you can get what you want in the future?

Are you expecting to make a small deposit and take a big withdrawal in your health and fitness?

Rather than looking at days or weeks, ask yourself what you’re committed to depositing in the next year.

Write the script of your life and recognize that it will take “deposits” to get the withdrawals you want.

I have a poster on my wall and it says….

Design The Life You Deserve, because You Deserve The Life You Designed

Some weeks you can make big deposits, some weeks small, they all add up so make sure you are depositing!!! Have a great week!!
