Congratulations to all of you who were a part of the Dicks Marathon! It is such an exciting day in the Burgh and there is no better feeling than the energy that you get joining together with thousands of others who are on the same mission as you. I feel like the theme “support” has hit me in the face so many times this week! I have witnessed the power of it, been reminded of the need for it and felt it so much! We all need support especially when we are trying to acheive something that is greater than we have ever done before, when we are trying to reach a new goal, when we are facing a challenge or sometimes just to get through a hard day.
Earlier in the week in our weight loss challlenge I encouraged a few memebers of my team that have been connecting with me to do a mid challenge weigh in to track progress.
This made my heart smile. After one of the team members left she went to her car and she sent me this message.
“My sister-in-law knew I was getting weighed in this AM so this is what I saw when I got into my car to leave! I put it as my screen saver!”
The message itself was awesome!. How true is this?!?! We all need to put this on our screen savers!!! How often does this happen in life and I’m not just talking weight loss! We start something eager and with a plan. We invest time, energy, heart and then somewhere along the way we fall off track and it becomes easier to go back to our old ways. NOT THIS TIME!!!! This needs to be your NEW starting point remember each choice moves you closer or further away…don’t stop making the right choices!
What really made my heart smile though was the support that she was receiving! We ALL need support!!! We will all have bad days where we want to quit, where we want to not care, when we want to take the easy way or where we feel like we failed and need some words of encouragement. We need as many people as possible on our team!!! We need a circle around us who will help hold us accountable because they care and they believe in us! They will help keep us on track yet not let us take ourselves too seriously, they will help us get back on track when we get off and remind us how strong we really are. Build your support circle, family, friends, co-workers!

The support that was shown for Casey in the planning, execution and attendance of yesterdays event was outstanding
Two members finished their First Marathon!!! Woot woot! They trained together, motivated each other and also expressed that they could not have done it without each others support.
We Need Each Other!!! Give it when you can, ask for it when you need it, and surround yourself by people who are on the same path as you!!!

FitHouse Takes Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis
Join us Saturday, May 21st for a special workout and fundraiser dedicated to two of our own FitHouse members, the Belfiore’s, in hopes to raise awareness and support for Joe and Owen and the entire community. “As most of you know already, this is a personal goal for our family because the effects of Crohn’s have touched us. It has been over three years since Owen had his bowel resection surgery and since then he has been blessed by good health and great care! Please help us join the fight to raise funds and awareness for Crohn’s research! My family and friends will be participating in the Take Steps Walk in Pittsburgh this coming June, and our goal is to raise over $5000. Please help if you can. Recipe of the Month: Fast Fix Zucchini Slaw – Eat and enjoy your veggies!
Ingredients:
- 6 Large zucchini, ends trimmed, coarsely grated or cut into matchsticks
- 1/2 cup (30g) finely chopped fresh parsley
- 1/2 cup (32g) chopped fresh dill
- 1 tablespoon (6g) fennel seeds
- 1 cup (150g) dried currants
- 2 tablespoons (28mL) white wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon (11g) Dijon mustard
- 1/3 cup (80mL) extra-virgin olive oil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Preperation:
- In a large bowl, combine zucchini, parsley, dill, fennel, and currants
- In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, mustard, and olive oil
- Pour over zucchini and toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper.
Yields 10 cups ~15 servings
