I hope that you are having a great weekend celebrating a little extra love, giving yourself a little extra love or spreading a little extra love!
This Year my mom and dad will celebrate 47 years of love…WOW! Mike and I will be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary this year! Just this morning we were listening to the radio and a song that we chose for our wedding party to dance to 15 years ago, Amazing by Lonestar, came on. Mike recognized it first and we recalled how we heard Lonestar play live right down the street from where we lived in LA in someone’s living room. It was crazy to think back to that day and how awesome it was, how much fun we had and all of the people that we shared it with. In some ways it seemed like yesterday and in some ways it seemed like ages ago!
I started to think about all that has happened in between that, some things that we dreamed of and some that we never dreamed of. All of those things brought us to where and who we are today. It’s fun to think of love as hearts, flowers and boxes of chocolate. But the truth is that it comes with a lot of hard work! Sometimes the strongest and hardest parts of love come through life’s challenges and often can either break us or make us stronger.
It is easy to take love for granted, the love that we give and the love that we receive. It is easy to take for granted that those around us and closest to us know that we love them and it’s easy to forget to tell them or show them in little extra ways. Just like every other area of our lives, our health, our fitness, our careers, love takes a lot of work!
Valentine’s Day is a great day to remember to give that little extra, but it definitely should not be left to one day of the year. What if you went, right now, and marked one day a month on your calendar to remind someone close to you how much you really care! Maybe that means a note, a card, an extra hug, a date night, or some other act of kindness. Love is one of the greatest things we can give or receive in life. It can be hard work but well worth the price!
