More

MoreHELLO SUMMER!!!! For a lot of us summer is starting a little bit later this year but it is finally here!!!! I hope you all had a great weekend! We took a little trip to Niagara Falls, Canada and had some fun family time, fun exploring and fun in nature. The power and beauty of the falls was great to see but my favorite part was watching the class VI rapids and the awesome green color of the water. There is nothing better than getting a dose of nature and being reminded of all of the beauty and opportunity that surrounds us!

My internal clock is used to getting up at 5AM and the sun was peeking up around this time too so I snuck out for an early run or two alongside the falls and the gorge. While I ran, and on the car ride to and from, Niagara I listened to an audible called “The Power of One.” There were so many great points in here and I want to go back and listen again and will share some more, but there were a few that really stood out. One thing that I found really interesting was his section on willpower. He talks about willpower as a fast twitch muscle. That means it’s very powerful but it does not have a lot of endurance. It tires quickly and many things can contribute to this such as poor diet, lack of exercise, stress and lack of sleep. When willpower and discipline run out we go to our default system. This can be the danger zone for some of us.

As summer is upon us, we relax a little more, sometimes indulge a little more , drink a little more and get off of our normal routines. What is your default system? What are those habits that you fall back on when your schedule gets off  and your willpower is run down? When do you feel your best??? What do you need to make sure that you keep consistent this summer in your diet and exercise program so that you feel great?!?  With a new summer routine, make sure not to let your health take the back seat. For some summer may be a little easier to make your wellness a priority and for others it may be harder, but as with everything the golden ticket is in planning! Don’t take a break from feeling your best mind and body! Plan time for you weekly to keep yourself feeling great for summer!

FitHouse Takes Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis

Join us for a special workout and fundraiser dedicated to two of our own FitHouse members, the Belfiore’s, in hopes to raise awareness and support for Joe and Owen and the entire community. Joe and Owen have been attending our Kids Sports Conditioning Program for weeks now and have improved immensely and grown with us. Click the picture and link above for more information on how Joe and Owen are taking steps with Pittsburgh to raise awareness. Any type of donation is appreciated.

As most of you know already, this is a personal goal for our family because the effects of Crohn’s have touched us. It has been over three years since Owen had his bowel resection surgery and since then he has been blessed by good health and great care! Please help us join the fight to raise funds and awareness for Crohn’s research! My family and friends will be participating in the Take Steps Walk in Pittsburgh this coming June, and our goal is to raise over $5000. Please help if you can. Join the fight to find a cure for Crohn’s!”

Regards,

Joe & Owen Belfiore
