Mother’s Day Motivation
I just want to share a quick story that made my heart smile, and I thought it was perfect for Mother’s Day. The unknown is scary! One of the biggest excuses that I hear about not taking an exercise class or starting a program is “I can’t do that” or “I’m not strong enough.” It can be super scary to come into a situation where you are not sure what to expect, you are not sure what you are capable of, and you know there is potential for you to be physically or socially uncomfortable.
Well, we just ended our Slimmer by Summer Challenge. One of our contenders was encouraged to join by her daughter who is a member at FitHouse and also did the challenge. She told me that she didn’t think she could do it, and she thought it would be too hard for her. With her daughter’s support and her own courage she joined. She came to her first class on a Saturday at 7AM. Now some of you know that class can have a lot of members and a lot of energy. Although we always give modifications and encourage you to go at your own pace, especially your first time with us, it is easy to get carried away by the energy and the others around you. Well, that is exactly what happened and let’s just say our new contender left looking a little greener than when she walked in. We hate that because our mission is always to create a positive experience and to have people leave feeling worked, yet successful. However, our new challenge member was not defeated and left with the words “I will not disappoint you!”
Well, here we are four weeks later, and she was absolutely right! She came back to the Basics class 2 days later, and then she continued to come to class 2-4 times a week through the challenge. She weighed in this week right before she attended the 7AM class on Saturday, and she was down 6 1/2 pounds and 7 1/2 inches in just 4 weeks! The best part was that she said she feels better than ever and was so glad that her daughter encouraged her to do it! She said it was a great experience, and she loved that we gave modifications and helped in class.
There are so many great things about this story! There is nothing more important than a little support and encouragement when you are trying something new! Most of the time people want you to succeed! When you walk in the doors at FitHouse and you have not worked out in awhile or maybe ever, our goal is NOT to crush you! We want you to feel better, move better and be healthier, and we want to help make it an enjoyable journey! Last, you MUST want it more than your fears, and you MUST believe that you can do it!
I hope this mother-daughter team does not mind me sharing this story! You are and can be inspiration to so many. Keep dreaming, being courageous and having faith!

Join us Saturday, May 21st for a special workout and fundraiser dedicated to two of our own FitHouse members, the Belfiore’s, in hopes to raise awareness and support for Joe and Owen and the entire community. Click the picture and link above for more information on how Joe and Owen are taking steps with Pittsburgh to raise awareness. Any type of donation is appreciated and be sure to join us for a special workout Saturday, May 21st to meet Joe and Owen!
“As most of you know already, this is a personal goal for our family because the effects of Crohn’s have touched us. It has been over three years since Owen had his bowel resection surgery and since then he has been blessed by good health and great care! Please help us join the fight to raise funds and awareness for Crohn’s research! My family and friends will be participating in the Take Steps Walk in Pittsburgh this coming June, and our goal is to raise over $5000. Please help if you can. Join the fight to find a cure for Crohn’s!”
Regards,
Joe & Owen Belfiore
