hillWhen we talk about maximizing metabolic benefits as well as improving strength and speed, sprinting and high intensity interval training rank high on the list. However when utilizing this type of training, and to gain full benefits from this type of training, you must not do it too often and you must have proper recovery, As a matter of fact the recommended  amount of time  for sprinting or high intensity interval training weekly for most is 2 days with periods of lower intensity exercise and recovery days in between. That is because the amount of work done when we sprint or work at our highest intensity levels is a lot! Life is no different.

We are on our second week of the Slimmer by Summer Challenge right now and some of the participants are on fire with their workouts, meal prepping etc. It is great to see the commitment, motivation, and mindset!! Many of these participants are sprinting right now and it is AWESOME!! In life, as well as our exercise programs, it is important to walk, jog and sprint. We cannot maintain a sprint pace all of the time but you better believe that you should aim to do it consistently, and you should definitely aim to do it if you want to get stronger and better. After all the more consistently you sprint the stronger your run gets and the easier your walk gets.

SO those sprints in life make you stronger for those other periods, but we can’t sprint all of the time. Sometimes it’s easy to feel like you are not doing enough when others around you are sprinting and you are in a recovery mode. Remember we all need to make sure that we are getting sprint days in there and recovery days and steady state run days are equally important when you sprint hard!  So think about your life right now. Have you been doing a lot of sprinting? Maybe you are due for a recovery. Has it been awhile since you have sprinted in the gym or in life? Then maybe this week is just that time that you need to turn up the speed and SPRINT!!!!
