Hello Fresh New Year!

WHAT’S NEW AT FITHO– USE? 

I am so excited to announce that we have rowers!!!! Why rowers???  Well as many of you know we are sticklers on good form and whole body fitness here at FitHouse. I love spinning but in our world of sitting behind a computer, in a car and on the couch for hours a day it is very easy to develop a rounded shoulder posture and a weak core which leads to a lot of postural imbalances and eventually pain and injury. Rowing is a NO IMPACT exercise that gives you an awesome burn while pretty much utilizing every muscle group in the body as well as strengthening the upper back! You can burn 500-600 calories in a 30 minute workout! Check out what some of the row pros have to say below!!!

We’re in a position where health and wellness advice is everywhere and there’s a place to exercise on every corner. The question isn’t whether or not to workout, it’s what to do. When you’re looking for something that’s high in intensity, but low in impact, rowing just wins — saving your joints and improving your posture, yet still working 85 percent of your muscles and getting that heart rate up? Yes please.

Every stroke requires you to work your calves, quads, hamstrings, glutes, abs, obliques, pecs, biceps, triceps, deltoids, upper back, and lats. Each rep is essentially a leg press, a dead lift, and a row. And because you’re working every muscle group in your body, your heart rate is elevated.

We will be incorporating the rowers into some of our regular classes but to offer you more time on the rowers and a variety in your workouts we will be adding a variety of smaller group 30 minute rowing classes such as UPPER BODY RIPPED and ROW, LOWER BODY RIPPED AND ROW and CARDIO ROW.

I am super excited to be adding another yoga class to our schedule. I believe that a lot of us including myself need to take more time to move slower, breathe deeper and channel our inner strength and power. Now there is another opportunity here at FitHouse. Some of you have already met Elisabeth Sawich and loved her. She will be here every Tueday night to bring you a little Zen time. This is an awesome chance to bring a little balance to your new year!!!

Winter ChickenWINTER CHICKEN

A YUMMY HEALTHY RECIPE TO WARM UP YOUR WINTER!!

1 sweet potato
1/2 medium sweet onion, chopped
1 medium apple – peeled, cored, and chopped
3 carrots, peeled and chopped
2 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
1 cup cranberries

Prep: 25 m
Cook: 55 m
Ready In: 1 h 20 m

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking dish.

Pierce the sweet potato several times with a fork and cut in half. Place in a microwave-safe dish; pour water to about 1/2-inch deep. Cook in microwave 10 minutes.

Arrange the onion, apple, and carrots into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Brush the barbecue sauce on both sides of the chicken breasts and lay atop the vegetables. Peel the sweet potato and cut into large chunks; scatter into the baking dish. Sprinkle the cranberries over the dish.

Bake in the preheated oven until the chicken is tender and no longer pink in the center, 45 to 55 minutes. Allow to cool 5 minutes before serving.

Makes 2 servings. 319 calories per serving
